LE SAGE (Alain-René). Le Diable Boiteux. Illustrations by Robert BELTZ, woodcut in colors by Théo SCHMIED. Paris, Auguste Blaizot, 1945, Fort in-folio. In sheets under a filled cover, double slipcase.
Work illustrated with 42 very beautiful color compositions in and H.T. by Robert Beltz (1900-1981) engraved on wood by Theo Schmied.
Limited edition of 220 numbered copies on Lana vellum, 1 of 25 copies containing a black suite on China paper of all the illustrations.
Carteret : A fine modern publication, highly priced. First work illustrated by this artist, of woodcut compositions in colors, of a very brilliant aspect, which would seem to be an innovation of Theo Schmied, in this art.
(discharge of the frontispiece on the title, which seems inevitable considering the varnish of the engraving)
