Rare Buddha figure
Maitreya as a Bodhisattva, identified by his hands in dharmachakra mudra (turning the darma wheel) with his legs dangling, is the only deity in the Buddhist pantheon who is depicted seated in the European style. Also visible are the now broken stems of the lotus flower traditionally held by Maitreya. The black dhoti on the chest and wearing rich necklaces, the headdress as well as the elements of jewelry are characteristic of this period where the influence of Tibet is felt in the stylistics.
