EMILE GALLÉ (1846-1904). "Apiaceae (Umbelliferae)". Rare baluster vase; the base with overhanging heel, the finished neck widely flared. Blown, blue-tinted glass. The richly-varied, rotating title decoration is treated with polychrome enamels and engraving over a large part of the vase to give the illusion of perspective. Circa 1895-1900. Signed GALLÉ in gold on double engraved lines in a cartouche formed by an engraved flower, bears the indications Modèle et Décor déposés - Compos à l'or sur trait gravé and its circular label of the period with the printed words Émile GALLÉ Paris-Nancy and handwritten 2817 Fou S under the base. H. 26.5 cm Note: A drawing "Coupe vue de profil et fleur d'ombellifère" by Émile Gallé in graphite and watercolor is kept at the Musée d'Orsay in Paris under inventory number ARO 1986 800. Expert: Emmanuel Eyraud.
