GIACOMO FAVRETTO (1849-1887) The Zanze (1884) oil cm.90x200 f.to in b. on s. Sent to the 1884 Turin exhibition, the painting depicts a mother adjusting a bird cage for her child and can be traced back to the work 'mother sewing.' The composition develops from below where the figures are located upward through the line of climbing geraniums: an expedient that showcases the importance of flowers in the composition. The Zanze typical female figure that appears in many of Favretto's paintings was none other than her sister Angela.
