A collection of 59 Delft pottery 'wanli' tiles, Ca. 1620-50, Netherlands, Ca. 13 x 13 cm, 59 tiles, salvaged from an old house in Weesp (near Amsterdam). Two tiles with initials on the back ‘F.I.’. Some subjects are repeated but in all a very nice array of figures, some seen from the back, and some unusual subjects such as a violinist, a man playing a bagpipe and a drummer, also a falconeer, clergy, a fishmonger, and a man with a cat in a basket (possibly a play on the Dutch saying ‘he bought a cat in a sack’, meaning someone bought something that turns out to be a disappointment). Mostly in fair to reasonably good condition, two with serious damage (one broken in two and repaired, another with corner broken off). See photos.
