An absolute rarity The model Some cars become works of art and icons. Its door-opening system has a lot to do with it. This is undoubtedly the case with the 300 SL, launched in 1954 and considered by some to be the first supercar. Its 3-liter engine developed 240 hp, a figure unheard of on production cars in 1950. More recently, one of its versions became the most expensive car in the world, further enhancing its aura. In short, the 1,400 examples of the 300 SL are a Holy Grail for collectors and enthusiasts of unusual cars. As its price made it impossible to acquire, replicas were proposed, like the AC Cobra. However, the number of replicas was very small. Gullwing Motor Cars now offers 300 SL replicas, based on Mercedes. Replication is a difficult exercise, as the comparison is almost obvious. Gullwing Motor Cars are among those who have taken great care to "copy" the original as closely as possible. The Gullwing doors are the same, as are the dashboard, the seats and the system for holding and attaching suitcases behind the doorways. The illusion is strong. You'll really have to put the "real" 300 SL next to it to tell the difference! Gullwing AG's 300 SL adopts a tubular chassis, like its ancestor, but stiffer, lighter and more spacious for large adults. The aluminum body is hand-finished. From a technical standpoint, the 300 SL Replica is built on the platform of the SL R129, which appeared in 1989. It is powered by a 6-cylinder 3.0l engine developing 190 hp. You don't want to wait, you don't want to or can't spend astronomical amounts of money, you want to feel the pleasure of being behind the wheel of a 300sl without fear? Then this is the car for you. The model This 300 SL replica, based on a W124 model, has a relatively long history. It dates from 1988 and has a 5-figure odometer reading 14,277 km. It's a replica made by Gullwing CAR with fiberglass bodywork and tubular chassis. The vehicle is in very good overall condition, with no visible structural damage or perforating oxidation. Identification conforms to the elements presented. The paintwork has been partially repainted in DB 735 Grey. There are some minor defects in appearance in various areas of the bodywork. The bodywork elements are homogeneous in terms of daylight and flush, although with very slight asymmetries. The structure shows no visible deformation or after-effects of previous repairs. The glazing is in standard condition and is not etched. Note the ageing of the seals. The interior and instrumentation are in good condition and functional. Interior trim and carpets are in good condition. The red leather upholstery is in good condition. The mechanical assembly is in good working order, as demonstrated by a dynamic test drive. Engine levels are correct. The engine number is not legible. We placed the vehicle on an elevator. The underbody and floors are free from perforating corrosion or visible deformation. The lower structure of the vehicle is free of any visible after-effects of previous repairs or apparent deformation. The powertrain has no obvious visual defects. The gearbox number recorded is *355598*. The running gear shows no abnormal play or visible deformation. The steel wheels with wheel covers are in good visual condition. The 205/70VR14 tires are in good visual condition and show fair wear. Note that these components were manufactured in 2007 (we recommend replacing them for safety reasons). A real nugget...
