Giovanni Maria Scupola Episodes of the Passion of Christ bears a label of provenance on the back.\This 'Passion of Jesus' was painted beyond doubt by Giovanni Maria Scupola di Otranto, active in the early 16th century, an artist present with signed works in the Louvre and in the Pincoteca Nazionale in Bologna and Naples. His manner turns out to be identical in a small triptych sold by Christie's in London in the June 19, 1987 auction (lot no. 2). This tablet is the central part of a similar triptych. In addition to iconographically resuming Jesus crucified and St. John, one notices the same filaments to outline the draperies, parallel or zigzagging, so characteristic as to be worth a fingerprint.\" W 11 - H 18 Cm oil on panel Expertise Prof. Ferdinando Arisi \"This 'Passion of Jesus' was painted without a shadow of a doubt by Giovanni Maria Scupola of Otranto, active in the early sixteenth century, an artist present with signed works in the Louvre and in the National Gallery of Bologna and Naples.
