Brunet I, 662. - The Italian cardinal and church historian Cesare Baronio (1538-1607) first published his history of the Christian church of the first twelve centuries between 1555 and 1607. The twelve volumes are to be understood as a reaction to the "Magdeburg Centuries". These appeared from 1559 to 1574 and are considered the first attempt to portray church history from the perspective of the Reformation. - Vol. 1 without rear flyleaf.
