Louis-Ernest BARRIAS (1841-1905) La Nature se dévoilant à la Science Bronze proof with triple patina Susse fondeur Signed on the base H: 58 ; W: 24 ; D: 14 cm Note: This statue was commissioned in 1889 to adorn the new Faculty of Medicine in Bordeaux. A young woman, the allegory of Nature, slowly lifts the veils she is wrapped in. After completing the first version in white marble for the building's décor, Barrias designed a second, polychrome version for the grand staircase of the Conservatoire des Arts et Métiers in Paris, now in the Musée d'Orsay.
