AN ARCHAISTIC PORCELAIN ZHADOU VASE, c. 1920s
China, late Qing dynasty (1644-1912) - Republic period (1912-1949). Modeled with a compressed globular body rising to a tall neck and flared rim, showing a speckled turquoise ‘robin’s egg’ glaze, decorated with gilded banana leaves on the neck, pendent ruyi heads on the shoulder, and dragons facing each other in lobed medallions as well as ruyi scepters on the body, all in high relief and made in imitation of gilt bronzes. The recessed base with an apocryphal six-character Qianlong reign mark.
Condition: Minor wear with firing flaws, a hairline crack as well as a restoration to the lip, and cracks and chips to the base.
