A MASSIVE BLUE AND WHITE ‘DRAGON’ BRUSHPOT, BITONG, QING
China, late Qing Dynasty (1644-1912) or slightly later. Of circular section, finely painted in underglaze blue displaying two opposing dragons in pursuit of the flaming pearl, writhing amid flames and clouds. The base unglazed.
Condition: Good condition with surface wear, surface scratches, chips to the foot rim, glaze losses, and manufacturing irregularities including firing flaws, kiln grit, dark spots, and pitting.
