Head of a noble personage. Mesopotamia, ca. 2nd millennium BC. Stone. Good condition. Provenance: French collection, 1990s-early 2000s. with Mirabaud Mercier Auction, Paris, France. From an important Parisian gallery, France. Ex Parisian private collection/ Auction, UK, 2022. Parallels: a similar Lagash head in the Louvre, accession number AO 4351, depicting a man with shaven head; cf. the portrait of Gudea, king of Lagash (circa 2100-2090 BC) held at the MET, accession number 49.26, from Girsu (present-day Tello); see a male head in white limestone in Berlin, Staatliche Museen, in Moortgat, A.
