Relief "Bell" with Atis and Cybele. Ancient Rome, 1st century BC approx. Terracotta. Intact. Provenance: Collection of the Spanish painter Ignacio Zuloaga (1870-1938) / J. Bagot Archaeological Gallery, Barcelona, 2015. Thermoluminescence test (TL) attached. Exhibited in Zuloaga's house-museum, located in the town of Zumaya (Guipúzcoa). Measurements: 13.5 x 13 cm. This fragment of relief probably belonged to a larger funerary relief. Two figures are depicted: a woman with a himation and her hair tied back, accompanied by a child (Atis) wearing a Phrygian cap on his head. The woman depicted is the goddess Cybele, considered the mother goddess, riding in a chariot drawn by lions, part of which is possibly depicted on the missing fragment. Cybele had a son named Atis, whom she abandoned, but when she met him she fell in love with him.
