Ein Reichs Thaler 1814 A, Friedrich Wilhelm III King of Prussia, In 1814, Friedrich Wilhelm III was King of Prussia. At the time, Prussia was one of the most powerful states in Europe. The country had taken part in the Napoleonic Wars, defeating the French army at the Battle of Leipzig in 1813. To finance the war, Prussia needed money. Friedrich Wilhelm III decided to mint a new coin, called "Ein Reichs Thaler". The coin had a value of three Prussian marks and was made of silver. It was used to pay soldiers and war supplies. The obverse featured a portrait of Friedrich Wilhelm III, with the inscription "Friedrich Wilhelm III König von Preußen". The reverse featured a Prussian eagle with crown, inscribed "Ein Reichs Thaler". The coin was minted until 1873, when it was replaced by the German mark.
