Kreuzer 1856 Friedrich Grosherzog von Baden, Friedrich I, Grand Duke of Baden, was a German nobleman who reigned as Grand Duke of Baden from 1856 to 1907. He was born on September 9, 1826 in Karlsruhe, and was the son of Leopold, Grand Duke of Baden. During his reign, he modernized the Baden region, promoting industrial development and improving infrastructure. He also introduced liberal reforms such as freedom of the press, the establishment of a parliament and the abolition of serfdom. Friedrich I was also a patron of the arts and sciences, and during his reign, the University of Freiburg was founded. He died on September 28, 1907 at his palace in Karlsruhe, and was succeeded by his son, Friedrich II.
