Six Pence 1912, Georgius V, George V was King of the United Kingdom and British Dominions from 1910 until his death in 1936. He was born on June 3, 1865, the eldest son of King Edward VII. George V was involved in the First World War and worked to improve relations between Commonwealth nations. He was also known for his commitment to modernizing the British monarchy. George V was married to Mary de Teck and had six children, including the future King Edward VIII and the future King George VI. He died in 1936 and was succeeded by his eldest son, Edward VIII, who abdicated shortly afterwards to marry Wallis Simpson, leaving the throne to his younger brother, George VI.
