Otto Scholderer (1834 - Frankfurt am Main -1902 ibid.) Blond girl with cat Young, distinguished girl with sun hat in a cream and pink summer dress standing in front of a garden cottage, holding a bowl with milk, in front of her sitting on the ground an eager cat looking up at the girl. Painted around 1872/73-1880, Scholderer's atmospheric painting with subtle rendering of light, which can be counted among the artist's major works. It must also have been one of his favorite paintings - it remained in his possession until 1902, when it was auctioned from his estate. As other drawings by Scholderer show, he dealt with the subject several times as "Miezes Frühstück". Scholderer, who showed early artistic talent, studied at the Städel School of Art under Jakob Becker from 1849-1851 and then settled down as a freelance painter. During this time, Scholderer's close friendship with his Frankfurt painter colleague Victor Müller developed. Through Müller, who was based in Paris from 1850-1858, Scholderer came to know and appreciate the works of Gustave Courbet. At the same time Müller encouraged him to undertake several study trips to Paris in 1857/58. There Scholderer became friends with Henri Fantin-Latour and Édouard Manet, who influenced him. Fantin-Latour immortalized Scholderer as an admirer of Manet in the famous painting "Un atelier aux Batignolles" (1870, Musée d'Orsay, Paris). 1858-1866 Scholderer worked mainly in Kronberg im Taunus, where he belonged to the painters' colony there. In 1866 Scholderer settled in Düsseldorf, where he also met Hans Thoma through his friend Philipp Röth. Scholderer went to Paris with Thoma in 1868 and did not return to Germany until shortly before the outbreak of the Franco-Prussian War in 1870. In early 1871 Scholderer decided to go to London, where he lived until 1899. In the British capital, his still lifes and portraits were very well received. From 1875 to 1896 he exhibited annually at the Royal Academy, and from 1893 to 1897 at the Great Berlin Art Exhibitions. Oil on canvas; R. u. monogr.; 90,5 cm x 67 cm. Frame.
