Roman school of the 17th/18th century
Saint John the Baptist
Oil on canvas
97 x 74 cm
The painting is connoted by its neo-Venetian peculiarities in vogue in Rome in the second half of the 17th century. This consideration leads toward Pier Francesco Mola from whom it is inspired (see St. John the Baptist Preaching in the Desert, preserved in the Louvre). Among his pupils we mention, specifically with reference to the work under consideration, Giovan Battista Pace.
