Marcantonio Aquili (Roma ? XV-XVI sec.) Marcantonio Aquili (Rome? 15th/16th century) Risen Christ with faithful in prayer Oil and gold on panel 28 x 16 cm Thanks to Professor Alessandro Delpriori for pointing out the attribution. The work is comfortingly matched by two works of the same subject: the first, signed and dated 1511, kept at the Museo Civico in Rieti, the second kept at Palazzo Eroli in Narni. Son of Antonio di Benedetto degli Aquili known as Antoniazzo Romano (c. 1430/1435 - Rome, April 17, 1508) was born, probably, in Rome in the second half of the 15th century. A pupil of his father, an influential painter of the Roman Renaissance. He inherited his father's style in which the lessons of Domenico Ghirlandaio, Melozzo da Forlì and Perugino, with whom Antoniazzo collaborated, can be glimpsed. Marcantonio's remarkable painting qualities often lead scholars to attribute his works to his father, as in the case of the aforementioned Resurrection in the Museo Civico di Narni. Marcantonio Aquili (Rome? 15th/16th century) Risen Christ with faithful in prayer Oil and gold on panel 28 x 16 cm We have to thank Professor Alessandro Delpriori for the attribution. The artwork finds comforting confirmation in the two artworks of the same subject: the first, signed and dated 1511, kept in the Civic Museum of Rieti, the second kept in Palazzo Eroli in Narni.
