[ATLAS] MOROCCO WITH THE ARMS OF THE KING OF NAPLES AND SICILY (BOURBON-SICILY) CIRCA 1760 Reunion of 45 maps dated from 1695 to 1757, mounted on tabs (most on double page, many filled, some laminated), illustrating Paris, the Château de Versailles, all regions and several towns of the Kingdom of France. 1 handwritten period sheet is placed at the beginning of the volume. Large folio (56x43). Contemporary full red morocco (c. 1760). 7-rib spine decorated with golden castle irons (evoking Castile in reference to the Bourbons of Spain) surrounded by gilded flowers. Green morocco parts, one with the word "Atlas" gilded, the other with "La France" gilded. Dishes richly adorned with a wide lace decoration of gilded palms with gilded flower vases in the spandrels. The center of the boards features the arms of the King of Naples and Sicily. Counter-panels and endpapers lined with gilded and embossed paper leaves in bright, gaudy hues. Double gold fillet around the edges. All edges gilt. Slight wear here and there. A few small wormholes at the top of the spine, of no consequence. The 45 maps are signed by several different geographers and cartographers, including de Beaurain (mainly for the town plans), Delisle (editions by his son-in-law Buache on very thick paper), Abbé Delagrive (Plan de Versailles, du petit parc et de ses dépendances, 1746) and Jaillot. They are enhanced with color at borders and boundaries, except for those devoted to the town plans signed by Beaurain, which are in black and white. They are in perfect condition, and only a few are slightly browned. Map no. 4 in the handwritten summary "Paris and its environs" is missing. A magnificent 18th-century composite atlas of royal provenance! Map details on request.
