Contemporary full glazed racine calf ("Relié par Simier" in gilt lettering at bottom of spine of volume 1). Smooth spine decorated with gilt fillets and scrolls. Black morocco title and giblets. Boards decorated with gilded fillets and gilded palmettes. Gilded lace on back covers. Marbled paper endpapers. Gilt fillet running along the edges. All edges gilt. Some foxing. Some wear rubs.
New edition illustrated with a frontispiece portrait of La Fontaine by Ribalt after Hyacinte Rigault and 25 fine copper engravings by various engravers after drawings by Jean Michel Moreau (1741-1814).
