MOLIÈRE [POQUELIN Jean-Baptiste dit] - [BOUCHER François] The most famous illustrated edition of Molière and François Boucher's masterpiece Works Paris, sn, 1734, 6 volumes. Large in-4°. Contemporary full glazed porphyry calf. Spine with 5 nerfs decorated with gilded caissons and fleurons. Dark brown and light brown morocco title and giblets. Triple gilt fillet around covers. Double gilt fillet around the edges. All edges red. Old restorations to the spines. Minor brown spots. Used rubs. Sumptuous edition containing a portrait of Molière by Coypel engraved by Lépicié, a title finial repeated on each volume, 33 plates after Boucher engraved by Laurent Cars, and 198 vignettes and culs-de-lampe by Boucher, Blondel and Oppenord, engraved by Joullain and Laurent Cars. Edition printed on laid paper with the text established on the basis of works printed during Molière's lifetime and revised by Marc-Antoine Joly, with a biography by the royal censor Jean Louis Ignace de La Serre. Second-edition copy with the error corrected (volume 6, p. 360, "Comteese" to "Comtesse"). A very fine copy.
