Very close to Mercure writers such as Valéry, de Tinan, de Régnier and above all Jarry, with whom he eventually fell out, Christian Beck, Belgian poet and writer, left his mark on fin-de-siècle literary circles, so much so that Gide would draw inspiration from him much later when shaping the character of Lucien Bercail in his novel "Les Faux-Monnayeurs". He is the father of writer Béatrix Beck, author of "Léon Morin, prêtre". Among other works, he contributed to the famous special issue of "La Plume" devoted to James Ensor (1898).
