Full midnight-blue long-grain morocco (Noulhac in gilt lettering at bottom of spines). Spines with 4 wide nerfs decorated with gilded chains, decorated with gilded caissons, scrolls and arabesques, with author, title and date in gilded letters. Boards richly decorated with gilding. Midnight-blue morocco centerpieces bordered by wide gilded lace. Bordeaux moire endpapers. Marbled paper endpapers. Guilloche headbands. Guilloche-cut edges decorated with a gilt fillet. All edges gilt. Covers and spines perfectly cons. Cases lined with the same morocco (rubbed). Beginning of a split at the top of the 4th plate of volume I. Interior in perfect condition.
Edition illustrated with 18 compositions in two states by Édouard Toudouze. Edition of 500 copies; here, 1/150 head on Japon.
Inserted are two engravings of "Mademoiselle de Maupin" after Rops, engraved by Eugène Courboin: one on Japon (final state, with remark and signature of Rops in the plate) and the other on vergé (state ?) with Courboin's signature in graphite.
