Yan PEI MING (born 1960).
Sketch for a portrait, 1989
Oil on canvas, signed and dated on the back
72 x 60 cm
Provenance: "L'œil avisé d'un collectionneur Bourguignon", acquired from the artist in 1992.
"I first met Ming in 1987, at the opening of an exhibition by Marc Camille Chaimowicz at the Musée des Beaux Arts in Dijon.
We quickly hit it off, and he knew of my plans for a large-scale exhibition in the Romanesque church in my small town, which became a reality in 1992.
This small format from 1989, different from his usual output, really appealed to me, as it was emerging in his Dijon studio, and that's where I acquired it.
Since then, Ming has become one of the world's leading painters. (the collector)
