A pair of identically designed Roman fittings... Lot 19

A pair of identically designed Roman fittings from the yoke of a chariot harness. Base frame of bronze bar flattened at the top and bottom with a semi-circular bent bar of the same thickness fixed to the side. At each end a disc with a silen mask. On both sides of the bow a satyr and a silen, placing a bent knee on the sacrum of a sitting goat and grasping it by a horn. The front hooves of the goats are placed on the discs with the Silen mask. The anatomical details of the figures lifelike and well worked out, partially finely chiselled. Beautiful dark green patina. Length 13.5 cm. Height 8 cm. Exceptionally beautiful yoke fittings with vivid, dynamic figural decoration. Provenance: From an Austrian private collection, acquired in the 1970s in the Austrian art trade. Condition: I - II
