[CHALON, Renier] Collection of notes and texts on family law in Brussels and Brabant. [C. 1824?] In-12: [46] ff. in Latin, French, Dutch, on laid paper, bluish and slightly smaller format for the 1st half of the collection (stains and faint dampening, several erasures). Burgundy half-percaline boards by Colebrants-Gheys, marbled paper boards, gilt threaded spine (spine faded, stained). Reunion of at least three notebooks of notes taken by Chalon, probably in preparation for his thesis on civil marriage, defended in 1824 in Louvain, where he had studied law. He provides numerous comments, summaries, case studies, etc. on the law and customs of the Ancien Régime as applied in Brussels, Nivelles and the Sovereign Court of Brabant, in matters of succession, spouses' rights resulting from marriage, guardianship, etc. Prov. Renier Chalon (ms. note in pencil). Attached, partly in the same hand: 1. "Ordonnances & décrets concernant les impositions et moÿens courant du paÿs et comté de Hainaut et des terres franches". [Mons, XVIIIe-XIXe c.]. Pet. in-4° : [16] ff. mss (stains, slight soiling). Eighteenth-century parchment boards (very defr., a few gaps, cuts). The mss notes, from several hands including that of R. Chalon and perhaps that of his father Jacques-Joachim, rentier born in 1767, listed as a lawman in a 1797 census (cf. de Callataÿ & Sorgeloos 49-50). Bound with 2 printed ordinances (s.l., s.n. [1735]; Mons, N.J. Bocquet, 1787) relating to the production, trade and taxation of beer and spirits in Hainaut, the second extensively annotated by R. Chalon. - 2 [Schuermans, Henri] - Renier Chalon (excerpt from "Bulletin des commissions d'art et d'archéologie", 28-29, 1889). Brux, 1889. In-8°. Mute blue paper covers. De le Court ref. 1088 (3 vols.)
