Brevet de membre effectif de la Société provinciale des sciences, des arts et des lettres du Hainaut délivré à Renier Chalon. Mons Typ. de Hoyois-Derely March 14, 1833 28.5 x 37 cm, printed and completed by hand, s. aut. of V. François, president, L. Petit, secretary, and R. Chalon, treasurer, red wax seal (qqs. rouss. especially marg., seal cracked but complete). Learned society founded on March 14, 1833, in Mons, with the aim of promoting intellectual activities in the province of Hainaut. Renier Chalon was one of the main architects of this foundation, along with Victor François (1790-1868), a future professor of medicine at Louvain. In 1838, when he left Hainaut to settle in Brussels, Chalon became a corresponding member for the rest of his life. Ref. De Callataÿ & Sorgeloos 50.
