Diplôme de membre correspondant de la Société impériale d'archéologie délivré à Renier Chalon. St. Petersburg October 16, 1850 33 x 44.5 cm, hand-printed and completed in Latin on J. Whatman wove paper, framed in blue and stencilled, s. aut. by Duke Maximilian of Leuchtenberg, president, J. Preischel, vice-president, P. Sawelieff and B. de Koehne [Köhne], dry stamp (lightly browned, minor soiling mainly marg.). Learned society founded in 1846 as the Société d'archéologie-numismatique under the patronage of Tsar Nicholas I, dissolved in 1923. Includes 4 other doc. 1. Köhne, commander Bernhard von - L.a.s. to R. Chalon. St. Petersburg, 17/29-10-1850. Bifeuillet in-4°: 3 pp. in French, on blue paper with the Society's French letterhead (discharge of a postmark). Long missive announcing Chalon's appointment and dealing with various numismatic issues surrounding Hainaut coins. - 2. unattributed specimen of the Société d'archéologie-numismatique membership diploma, same format and presentation, dispatch notes on verso (traces of red wax stamps, folds). - 3-4. Kowalevski, E. - L.a.s. to R. Chalon. St. Petersburg, 13/27-10-1860. Bifeuillet in-4°: 1 p., in French, headed in French by the Chancellery of the Minister of Public Instruction, envel. cons. (cutout on verso). Announcement that Tsar Alexander II is offering him "a diamond ring with an emerald" to thank him for sending two numismatic publications. 1 f. with draft of Chalon's reply (5 pcs.)
