Brussels June 21, 1859 43.5 x 55.5 cm, lithogr. and completed by hand, on wove leather, s. aut. of Baron de Gerlache, president, and [Adolphe] Quetelet, perpetual secretary, large red wax seal in metal case affixed with a tricolor ribbon (slight soiling and staining, especially on margins, small tear at ribbon notch, small crack in seal, otherwise complete). Beautiful diploma signed by Adolphe Quetelet (1796-1874), famous Belgian mathematician and astronomer, friend of Chalon and eminent Agathopède. Jointly 5 docs: 1-3. Quetelet, Ad. - 3 l.a.s. to R. Chalon concerning his election. Brux, 1859. Div. formats, 2 on Academy letterhead, 1 with postmarks (small tear due to opening of envelope). - 4 Rogier, Ch., Minister of the Interior - Certified copy of the royal decree validating the election and accompanying l.a.s..
