2 bibliophile society membership diplomas issued to Renier Chalon. 1. Société des bibliophiles belges séant à Mons. Mons, Hoyois, April 4, 1835. 29 x 41 cm, lithogr. in color and completed by hand, on vellum skin, s. aut. of R. Chalon, president, and Camille Wins, secretary, dry seal of the Society (some light foxing and 2 pinholes in the margins). This society, the first of its kind in Belgium, was founded on April 4, 1835, at the Mons home of Henri-Florent Delmotte, who was its first president. As our diploma attests, Chalon was one of the fourteen founding members. - 2 Société des bibliophiles de Belgique. Brux, Lith. Simonau-Toovey, January 23, 1874. 32.5 x 50.5 cm, lithogr. in color s. "C. Troost fec." and compl. by hand, s. aut. of Xavier de Theux, president, and Jules de le Court, secretary (3 min. wormholes, 1 in frame, qqs. min. stains). Founded in Brussels in 1865 by X. de Theux de Montjardin, author of the "Bibliographie liégeoise", this society's primary purpose was to publish the journal "Le bibliophile belge". It should not be confused with the previous society, nor with the Société des bibliophiles de Belgique founded in Brussels in 1842 by Baron de Reiffenberg, nor with the Société des bibliophiles et iconophiles de Belgique, which was not founded until 1910.
