FLEURIMONT, G.R. Médailles du règne de Louis XV. [Paris] s.n. [c. 1748] In-f.: [3]-78 ff. (soiling mainly marg., pitting holes marg.). 19th c. green agate marbled paper boards (lower spine missing, corners dull). Ultimate and most complete edition of this fully engraved work, featuring an allegorical front by Laurent Cars after François Le Moine, a title in a rocaille cartouche, a dedication to the king by Fleurimont and 78 plates of medals with descriptions in repeated ornamented frames, recounting the events of the reign from 1715 to 1748. A continuation of Godonnesche's eponymous work, first published in 1727 with 36 plates, which was banned to prevent it from competing with that of the Académie. However, it was later copied by Fleurimont, who published several successive and enlarged editions, with the same front matter, title and dedication, but under his own signature. Ref.
