Wooden mold for a Civic Guard medal. [Brussels 1849] Ø 5.4 cm, on the right: "Vive le roi" (Long live the king) within a heart formed by standing lions, with "La Garde civique" around the rim (block nailed to a supporting wooden roundel), on the reverse: "Delannoy/ having insulted/ the Garde civique/ is chased/ by the king", surrounded by a frieze and adorned at the bottom with a standing lion. Good condition. Exceptional mold of a pewter medal described as "rare" by Guioth: "I have not yet been able to meet the one I possess" (p. 313). It was issued to castigate the behavior of Colonel De Lannoy, aide-de-camp to King Leopold I and tutor to the princes. On October 24, 1849, he had had an altercation with a group of the Schaerbeek civic guard, which led to his resignation as preceptor. Ref. Guioth I:268. Joint, wooden mold of the same workmanship (right only), Ø 4.3 cm, "Bocarmé/ l'empoisonneur/ est décapité // 19 juill./ [1851]". The reverse (missing) bears "Despite the Jesuits and the threats of Austria". Viscount Hippolyte Visart de Bocarmé was sentenced to death by the Mons Assize Court for the murder of Gustave Fougnies, his brother-in-law. Ref. Guioth II:54. (3 pcs)
