CHALON, Renier Recherches sur les monnaies des comtes de Namur [- Supplements]. Bruxelles M. Hayez; sold at A. Decq (Suppl.: A. Decq (imp. F. Gobbaerts succ. d'E. Devroye)) 1860-1870 2 parts in 1 vol. in-4° (marg. tear not affecting text on one f.). Contemporary dark green chagrin, triple gilt fillet around covers, gilt ribbed spine, gilt int. dent, gilt t., covers on boards (spine slightly faded). In marbled paper slipcase (some rubbing). Fine untrimmed copy, very fresh. Extract from "Mémoires de l'Académie royale des sciences, des lettres et des beaux-arts de Belgique" (t. XXXII). This study, which is still a reference, is the author's most important work on numismatics, along with the one he devoted to Hainaut (cf. no. 41). Illustrated with 24 lithographed plates by J. Vandendaelen (except for the 2 suppl. plates) totalling 300 fig. This lithographer was the official illustrator of the "Revue belge de numismatique". Complete copy of the "Suppléments" vol. published 10 years later. Enriched with 2 doc. on loose ff.: etching portrait of Chalon on copper by D.-J.
