Carl Heinrich Rahl (1779-1843), The capture of Empire General Joseph Vandamme (1770-1830) during the Battle of Kulm, Poland, 1813. Engraving: 21.5 x 31.5 cm + frame 40 x 49 cm. The Battle of Kulm took place on August 30, 1813 near the town of Kulm (Kingdom of Bohemia) during the Sixth Coalition. It pitted 32,000 men, under the command of Empire general Vandamme, against 54,000 men from the coalition forces of Austria, Prussia and Russia, under the command of general Barclay de Tolly, with heavy losses.
