Important Mambila dance mask.
The Mambila are a people of Central and West Africa, mainly present in southeastern Nigeria, but also across the border in northwestern Cameroon. Most live on the Mambila plateau. They are mainly farmers and herders. Among their most remarkable creations are carved wooden statuettes and mask-casks, but above all pottery9. These works are frequently used in therapeutic rituals.
