IMPORTANT COLLIER «GUIRLANDES» Articulated ribbons and flower gurilandes Cushion, pear, old-cut round and rose-cut diamonds Platinum (850) and 18k (750) gold Circa 1905 - 1910 Dim. of motif : 9 x 7 cm approx. Pb. 65 g Under the influence of Empress Eugenie, who had her jewelry reworked "à la façon Marie-Antoinette" by Bapst and Lemmonier, the garland style became particularly fashionable in Paris in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The style was inspired by ornamental and architectural elements from the 17th and 18th centuries, such as bows, scrolls, laurel and oak leaves. The discovery of diamond mines in South Africa around 1860 spurred the development of this extravagant jewelry. The abundance of gems enabled the creation of these harmonious jewels set with numerous diamonds, which embellished the necks, bodices and hairstyles of the most elegant ladies and crowned heads. A diamond, platinum and gold necklace, circa 1910
