Louis Renault launched automobile production with the Type A in 1898. Success came quickly, and this first car was soon followed by the B and C types.
In 1901 Renault launched the Type D, equipped with a choice of Aster or Dion liquid-cooled engines. In 1902, it was replaced by the type G.
Our example features a tonneau body and a De Dion engine, the most powerful available at the time.
The car was delivered new to the Esclert family, fabric manufacturers in northern France. They took part in rallies and kept it until 1996, when it was acquired by a certain Mr. Hermann in Belgium.
Our collector acquired the car in 1996, when it was still running and in very good condition. He kept it in the same beautiful state of presentation and operation. He then embarked on a series of rallies, including three participations in the London-Brighton and several local events.
All the vehicles in the Rollet collection have been out of service for at least 5 years, and will need to be restarted.
