JOSE DE PAEZ Y TALLER Mexico City (1715) / (1790) "Screen with saints and scenes from the Old Testament" Oil on canvas Screen composed of four sheets of canvas mounted on a carved and gilded wooden structure from a later period, probably finished XIX. Each sheet includes three independent scenes also painted in oil on canvas and adhered to the main support, gilding the remaining space of the canvas. The scenes were painted by different artists and mounted on the main panels at an undetermined date. The twelve scenes are: Sheet 1: - "Creation of the Immaculate Conception by the Eternal Father." Measurements: 54 x 46 cm - "Immaculate Conception". Measurements: 42 x 30 cm-"Lot and his daughters". Measurements: 44 x 50 cm Sheet 2: - "Saint Peter". Measurements: 56 x 35 cm - "Saint Magdalena de Pazzi". Measurements: 47 x 38 cm - "Holy Family". Measurements: 45 x 31 cm Sheet 3: - "Saint Agnes". Measurements: 57 x 37 cm - "Saint John of the Cross". Measurements: 41 x 25 cm "Saint". Measurements: 57 x 47 cm Sheet 4: - "Holy Family with the Doctors of Carmel". Measurements: 56 x 41 cm - "Saint Christopher". Measurements: 38 x 28 cm - "Samson and Delilah". Measurements: 44 x 49 cm, José de Paez painted the scene of "Lot and his daughters" (signed) and "Samson and Delilah" (signed partially illegible). The scene of "The Immaculate Conception" is attributed to Rafael Joaquín Gutiérrez ( Mexico 1730 - 1800), being signed partially illegible. The rest of the scenes were painted by Mexican artists of the 18th century, probably from Paez's workshop or environment. Measurements: 207 x 57.5 cm each
