Biedermeier portrait cup
Probably KPM Berlin, circa 1840, unmarked, twelve-edged, pressed bulbous form with fluted foot, flaring neck, ear handle and rich onglaze painting, outer wall with surrounding vermicelli decoration in gold with horizontal field division by means of coloured stripes, gold rims and inner lip gilding, inner base with fine polychrome portrait depiction, Breast piece of an elegantly dressed lady with upswept coiffure, flanked by bushes and in front of a suggested sky, framed by an etched gold band, matching saucer with gold rims, underglaze blue KPM sceptre mark 1837-1844, embossed numbers and brush letter T, cup lip professionally restored near the left arm of the woman, otherwise in good condition for age, H cup 55.5 cm, D saucer 15.5 cm.
