KPM Berlin Portrait Cup and Saucer Biedermeier
Saucer dated "Den 17ten September 1840", underglaze blue sceptre mark 1837-1844, cylindrical cup with three lion feet, slightly swinging mouth, high rosette handle and rich decoration of large rectangular cartouche on the front with portrait of an elegantly dressed gentleman in fine polychrome onglaze painting, flanked by two axially symmetrical tendril ornaments in gold painting, gold rim and complete gilding of the inner wall, matching saucer with corresponding gold decoration and black-brushed date and enumeration of Shakespeare's and Schiller's tragedies (Hamlet, Tell, Lear, Macbeth, Wallenstein and Richard), decoration minimally rubbed in places, otherwise in good condition for age, h cup 13 cm, d saucer 19 cm.
