Lin FENGMIAN (1900-1991). Young elegant lady and dancer. Reunion of two inks and watercolors on paper signed lower right and lower left in ink with the artist's stamp. China, 20th century. Dimensions: 34x22 cm. (Some foxing). Born into a family of craftsmen, Lin Fengmian (林风眠) came to study in France between 1918 and 1925, settling first in Dijon and then in Paris, where he attended the École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts. In 1926, he became President of the Peking National Academy of Arts, then Director of the Hangzhou Academy of Arts, before deciding to devote himself exclusively to painting from 1952 onwards. Considered one of China's greatest modern artists, Lin Fengmian's art evokes a syncretism between Western painting and Chinese tradition.
