Icon "The Dormition of the Virgin". The Virgin reclining on her bed is surrounded by eleven apostles. In the background, two haloed bishops carry a book. Behind them stand four women, Mary's companions in her last hour. In the center, Christ appears in the middle of a mandorla, holding the swaddled Virgin Child on his left arm. Above Christ, a scarlet six-winged seraph comes to gather Mary's soul. At the bottom, an episode is illustrated showing that during the ceremony, an impious Jew by the name of Jephonias tried to stir up trouble by overturning the funeral bed. The archangel Saint Michael rushed in and chopped off his hands. Architectural decoration of buildings at top left and right. Wood, traces of varnish, filled cracks, some repainting.
