Fine travel manuscript collection on laid paper in 4 in 4° booklets, containing travel notes mainly in Dutch from the second half of the 18th century, describing regions and towns (churches, names of principal families, duchies, counties, population, local history, etc.) mainly in Italy. 1/ The first notebook comprises 30 leaves or 60 pages. The notes begin in Savoy, with a general historical presentation, then mention of the main towns, towns by region and presentation of the regions (Tarantaise, Piedmont etc.). This is followed by Italy, including Saluces, Montferrat, Milan, the Duchy of Parma, the Duchy of Modena, Mantua, Venice and Veneto... 2/ The second section comprises 24 sheets, or 48 pages. It is a veritable directory of families living in the various towns and villages of northern Italy. Numerous annotations, often in red ink. 3 / The third notebook comprises 49 leaves or 98 pages. Most of the notes concern Tuscany, Florence, Siena, Grossetto, Pistoia...; Romagna, Bologna... But also a study of numerous surnames: Aquaviva, Cajetani, Caraccioli, Caraffa, Visconti, the princely houses of Rome: Altemps, Borghese, Pamphili... 4/ The fourth section comprises 29 sheets, or 58 pages. This is a study of southern Italy: Puglia: Otranto, Lecce, Brindisi, Gallipoli, Taranto; Calabria and Campania: Naples in particular; Sicily: Palermo, Syracuse, Taormina, Monreale; the Aeolian Islands; Corsica. Numerous annotations added, a few stains. Preserved in a handwritten parchment folder taken from a medieval choir book.
