BELLIN (JACQUES-NICOLAS). CARTE DE LA COSTE D'ARABIE, MER ROUGE, ET GOLFE DE PERSE. DRAWN FROM THE FRENCH MAP OF THE ORIENTAL OCEAN. PUBLISHED BY ORDER OF M.GR LE COMTE DE MAUREPAS IN 1740. Map showing the Arabian Peninsula, drawn by Jacques-Nicolas Bellin from his large Carte réduite de l'Océan-Oriental ou Mers des Indes, published in 1740 by order of Jean Frédéric Phélypeaux, comte de Maurepas, Secretary of State for the Marine under the reign of Louis XV. The map was published in the Histoire générale des voyages. The main towns along the coast are named, as are Bahrayn (Bahrain), Maskat or Muscat, capital of Oman, Yaman (Yemen), and along the Red Sea, Tahamah (Tihama), Mecca and Hajr Hejaz (Hedjaz).
