HOLLAND SCHOOL circa 1700, after Adrian van der WERFF Saint Margaret of Antioch Copper 45 x 33 cm Bears an engraved inscription on the reverse of the copper "N° 16 / M. Blondel de Gagny à Paris". (Old restorations) The Blondel de Gagny provenance confuses our painting with the painting of the same composition signed and dated 1714 (42.2 x 30.5 cm), whose location is unknown (see B. Gaehtgens, Adriaen van der Werff 1659-1722, Münich, 1987, no. 99, reproduced). The saint bears the idealized features of the artist's wife Margareta Rees.
