LARGE reliquary CHASSE in carved, polychrome and gilded wood, in the form of a house, resting on four lions in carved and gilded wood. Enriched with pinnacles at the four corners and on the finial. The twelve apostles are sculpted in high relief on all four sides (2 apostles on each gable and 4 on the sides), presented in six registers decorated with Gothic tri-lobed arcatures, between two columns, on a gold background enriched with a blue and red diamond motif. Each apostle is recognizable by his or her Christian iconographic attribute, and retains much of the polychromy. At the four corners, the figures of the four evangelists are sculpted and surmounted by a canopy. The roof, divided into six registers, three on the left and three on the right, is decorated with fleur-de-lys sculpted in high relief and set in false square tiles offset at 45 degrees. One of these registers conceals an opening trapdoor hinged by two external wrought-iron hinges; a beautiful three-register lock plate, decorated with mesh and a fleur-de-lys. Northern France, late Middle Ages. H. 83 - W. 91 - D. 50.5 cm. Good overall condition, a few small pinnacles missing from the finial, small chips to the gilding and wear to the polychromy. Key missing. Previous sale : Lancry et Camper in Corbeil on December 2, 2017. This item was viewed by Madame Laurence FLIGNY, Haute Epoque expert.
