Eggeling 202 Provenance Anneliese Therkatz (née Thuar), Düsseldorf; since then in family possession Exhibitions Bonn 1965 (Städtische Kunstsammlungen), Hans Thuar. Paintings, Watercolors, Prints, Cat. No. 193, no illus. The painting "Pappeln in der Sonne" has a kind of counterpart in "Pappeln im Sturm" (Eggeling 203), painted in the same year. While the light-flooded version conveys a cheerful mood, the "Poplars in the Storm" is characterized by the troubled sky and the gloomy colors of despair and foreboding of the seriously ill artist. Both works are among the last paintings by the painter, who died in 1945.
