- VERSAILLES] Les Plaisirs de l'Isle enchantée... [Relié avec :] Les Divertissements de Versailles... [Et :] Relation de la feste de Versailles...Paris Imprimerie Royale, 1673-1679. Superb binding attributable to Luc-Antoine Boyet, adorning the reunion of the three great illustrated relations of royal festivities at Versailles. Louis XIV held his first grand fête at Versailles in May 1664. The celebrations and events were inspired by Ariosto's Roland Furieux, which served as the backdrop for a host of triumphs, ring races, feasts and theatrical performances, including Molière's comedy-ballet La Princesse d'Elide, set to music by Lully. The book recounting the festivities was printed in 1674, with a text by André Félibien and 9 plates by Silvestre, as well as Lepautre, whose name does not appear. This first work inaugurates a "series" of other books of similar format, commemorating other festivities held at Versailles, in July 1668 to mark the end of the War of Devolution against Spain, and in the summer of 1674, following the reconquest of Franche-Comté. Graver pour le roi, cat. 2, 3 and 4; Jérôme de La Gorce, Fêtes & divertissements à la Cour, cat. 41-44. In-folio (436 x 292 mm), comprising: 1) [FÉLIBIEN, André (1619-1695)]. Les Plaisirs de l'Isle enchantée. Course de bague... et autres festes galantes et magnifiques faites par le Roy à Versailles le VII. May M.DC.LXIV. Paris : Imprimerie royale, 1673 [Achevé d'imprimer dated 1674]. Title with engraved vignette of the royal arms and 92 pp. 1 engraved entablature and 1 engraved lettrine; 9 double-page plates, engraved by Jean Lepautre and Israel Silvestre. 2) [FÉLIBIEN, André (1619-1695)]. Les Divertissements de Versailles donnez par le Roy à toute sa cour au retour de la conquête de la Franche-Comté en MDCLXXIV. Paris : Imprimerie royale, 1676. Title with engraved vignette of the royal coat of arms, 34 pp. of text with 1 engraved headband, 1 engraved lettering and 3 engraved large endpapers; 6 double-page plates, engraved by Lepautre and Chauveau. 3) [MOLIÈRE, Jean-Baptiste Poquelin, dit (1622-1673) and André FÉLIBIEN (1619-1695)]. Relation de la feste de Versailles du 18 juillet mil six cens soixante-huit. Paris : Imprimerie royale, 1679. Title with engraved vignette of the royal coat of arms, 43 pp. of text with 1 engraved entablature and 1 engraved lettrine; 5 double-page plates engraved by Lepautre. The volume is arranged as follows: all text pages, then all engravings, in the same order as the books to which they are attached (scattered spotting and foxing). 4) Mounted at the end of the volume, 9 plates from the Course de teste et de bague. Binding attributable to Luc-Antoine Boyet, executed circa 1710: red morocco, right border composed of a repetition of irons in parentheses evoking a braid or cordage, enhanced with fleur-de-lis and crowned fleurs-de-lis at the corners, this braid bordered on either side by double fillets, pearl fillet, and lace of foliate irons, arms of Louis XIV in the center of the boards (OHR, pl. 2494, iron no. 7), ribbed spine, decorated with crowned fleur-de-lys and small corner irons, inner lace roulette and on the edges, marbled paper-covered spine cover, gilt edges (spine faded, corners rubbed, a few stains). A fine binding probably made by Luc-Antoine Boyet, with the gilt arms of Louis XIV. The volume comprises the three major livres de fêtes celebrating parties held at the Château de Versailles.
