Pulley, Ivory Coast

Beautiful anthropozoomorphic pulley, surmounted by a small avian figure.
This type of pulley is found among several Ivory Coast populations, including the Attié, Baoule, Senoufo and Gouro.
According to Susan Vogel, they were hung above the loom in the public square for all to see. In this way, the artist could show off his sculpting talents to the community, and hope for commissions for statuettes and masks.
